The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is organizing the Earth Day 2009 Celebration at the compound of Underwater World Langkawi.
This is to expose to the public the importance of preserving the environment.
The Earth Day Celebration with the theme “Save Nature for the Future” started on the 7th May and will end tomorrow.
Chief Secretary for the Ministry, Dato Zoal Azha Yusof said the earth day celebration is an approach to instill nature appreciation and to help the government to deal with environmental issues which included the quality of air, water and soil in the country.
The three days event will include many educational and fun filled activities like Beach Canvas, Longest Hand Link and Mega beach Clean-up.
An exhibition booth by the ministry will also provide information regarding the environment.
He said this when presenting the speech for the Minister, during the launching of the program yesterday.

The Transport Ministry has made available seven ambulance boats, costing fifty six million ringgit, to handle emergency medical cases involving island residents in the country.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, said the boats would be berthed in Langkawi, Port Klang, Mersing, Tioman, Pangkor, Kuala Terengganu and Labuan.
He said the reason to provide these ambulances for the people so that the island residents have an emergency transport facility, which is equipped with medical facilities, to take them to hospitals on the mainland.
He told reporters after the handing over of one of the boat here yesterday.
Ong said the ambulance boats, which will be managed by the Marime Department, had facilities like a room for medical officer, an open deck and an isolation room.
Also present at the function were Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday received the registration certificate for his yacht "Apanama".
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat who presented the certificate to Dr Mahathir said registration of the 100th yacht was made under Langkawi international yacht registration.
The yacht "Apanama," being built by a local company is scheduled for completion by Sept.
Ong said Dr Mahathir was responsible for creating an international boat registration system and for making Malaysia a world yacht destination.
He added that the body hopes to register one hundred fifty yachts by year end, including those of mega size.
Launched in 2003, international boat registration has received good response from the local and international maritime communities.
